In early 2017, soon after reprehensible right-winger Donald Trump first became President of the United States, I wrote a certain post. Now that Trump will depressingly occupy the White House again, I’m bringing back that post, revised and updated. Hopefully, my blog will return to “normal” next week. 🙂

I, Donald Trump, demanded to write a guest literature piece, and I always get what I want. Sure, I don’t read novels or know much about any of them, but I do read the backs of McDonald’s “Happy Meal” containers. Lots of back story, ya know?

Actually, I know a yuge amount about fiction, but more the “alternative facts” kind than the literary kind. I’m a fabulous fabricator! Liane Moriarty wrote Big Little Lies; I’m more into Big BIG Lies.

Anyway, I was told I should read The Ambassadors by Henry James, but I already have a list of the corrupt, distasteful envoys I’ll appoint for various countries. Including Chile, which McDonald’s has on its menu, though misspelled as chili. And my weird, startling, extremist, incompetent, fox-guarding-the-henhouse cabinet picks? They make Stephen King’s Misery seem upbeat.

The Red Badge of Courage? Believe me, bravery is for losers. I showed more courage getting Vietnam War deferments for alleged bone spurs in my heels, even though I played sports at the time with no problem. They called me The Natural — inspiring a Bernard Malamud novel that later became a movie starring one of those Hollywood “libtards,” Robert Redford, who’s no relation to Robert Redtesla. My best buddy Tesla guy Elon Musk owns the now-fascist-friendly X, formerly Twitter and still the Roman numeral for the low level of Musk’s social IQ.

Also, I bigly love Theodore Dreiser’s Sister Carrie character. I’d like to grab her by the [deleted]. Make An American Tragedy Great Again? I’m on it!

You see, I have immense respect for women. But was George Eliot transblender or something? George is a guy’s name, but that 19th-century scribbler looks female in photos. Lock her up!

And the clever nicknames I come up with! “Sleepy Joe Biden,” “Crazy Kamabla,” “Tampon Tim,” “Deranged Jack Smith,” and “George Slopadopolus,” to name a few. From the past, there was also Chris “Agatha” Christie; And Then There Were None: cabinet positions for him in 2017.

I also know history, because I know everything! Toni Morrison was the lead singer of The Doors, Harper Lee surrendered to Ulysses Grant, Richard Wright co-invented the airplane, and the Brontë sisters were at the 2017 Women’s March on Washington. I always have a Tan, but it’s not Amy.

Another George: Orwell. Love, love, LOVE the oppressors in Nineteen Eighty-Four! I even tried doublethink, but I can’t think once most of the time. Ask Herman Melania, my wife’s ancestor, who wrote about a big white male — that’s me! Captain Ahab sounds kind of Muslim, doesn’t he?

My wife Melania was an immigrant, but an okay one because she’s white. I have promised to deport millions of “other” types of immigrants. Sure, it will ruin their lives, devastate communities, and wreck the U.S. economy. My response? The Art of Me Saying “Big Deal.”

No new non-white immigrants, either; Jorge Luis Borges and Gabriel Garcia Marquez will never cross our southern border while I’m racist-in-chief, um, sexual-predator-in-chief, um, commander-in-chief. It helps that those two Hispanic writers are dead. Not much border-crossing potential there.

The Blacks, The Blacks. Why didn’t E.B. White use the name E.B. Very White? The title of Jack London’s White Fang novel rocks. I heard about Zora Neale Hurston’s 1937 classic Their Eyes Were Watching God — thrilling that those eyes were watching me nine years before I was born.

Flowers for Algernon — also thrilling! It gave me a chance to mentally mock the disabled for pages and pages. Can you beat that? Which reminds me that I’ll encourage the police to beat up any Americans who oppose me. The Hate U Give? Nope, not the Angie Thomas novel. The Hate I Give.

Mark my words, I’m really going to build a wall this time — paid for by Mexico (aka American taxpayers). We’ll build that big, beautiful fence at The Border: a novel by Cormac McCarthy, whose last name reminds me of one of my heroes, Joe McCarthy.

Jim Casy of The Grapes of Wrath was a commie, wasn’t he? Not the good kind like Vladimir Putin. Although I don’t read any books, I love Russian literature — including War and War and Crime and No Punishment for Me. But Anna Karenina? Overrated! Blood coming out of her whatever (after she was hit by a train). And Alexander Solzhenitsyn? I like authors who don’t get jailed.

Did I mention I drained the swamp? So I could have a dry place to burn books by liberal, pinko writers. Ever read Fahrenheit 451? The same number as my IQ. It’s genius-ly high! But I actually never really drained the swamp — I made it swampier.

My second presidential administration — Trump 2.0 — will be like a dystopian novel come to life again. I have no idea what dystopian means, but right-wing media nut Ben Shapiro and my nasty vice president-elect JD Vance mentioned that word one day. I think of those two as The Sound and the Fury. Me? Pride and Prejudice.

It Can’t Happen Here? It already has.

    • I don’t recognize some of the names in your two comments, Cosima, but Trump is certainly on a very low moral level. And I was NOT a fan of the late Charlie Kirk’s views (though I feel bad for his children). The U.S. has way too many guns. 😦

    WordPress participants, if you slap the term “genocide” onto Israel’s response to the Oct 7th Abomination War, then intellectual honesty demands you paste the same label on the Dec 7th, 1941 assault—the “day of infamy”—which launched America into World War II. Accusing Israel of genocide while excusing the Allies’ firebombing of Tokyo and atomic obliteration of Hiroshima and Nagasaki reveals either flagrant hypocrisy or ideological dishonesty.

    Revisionist hacks whitewash the role Arab states played between 1948 and 1967, fabricating a myth in which a sovereign Palestine once flourished—until Israel supposedly destroyed it.

    In truth, Jews rooted themselves in the land through three distinct political eras:

    The united Twelve-Tribe Kingdom,

    The Judean Republic under Persian suzerainty, and

    The Hasmonean Dynasty, which threw off Greek-Syrian domination through armed revolt.

    No Arab or Muslim polity ever ruled a sovereign state in the land now called Israel. Between 1948 and 1967, Jordan occupied Samaria—renaming it the “West Bank” in a rhetorical land grab—but never lifted a finger to forge a Palestinian state. The British Mandate for Palestine dissolved in 1948; no successor Arab government attempted to revive it. Arab states rejected UN 181, Britain’s feeble divide and conquer UN 242. Post the Nakba defeat and Israeli Independence, the UN has no authority to impose 194 – “right of return” upon the Jewish state. Despite the Goebbels repeated mantra refrain: Zionist entity Crusader State.

    Egypt, likewise, seized control of Gaza. Despite the 1950 UN condemnation (endorsed by every member state except England and Pakistan), Egypt’s monarch made no moves toward Palestinian statehood. Nasser later toppled that king, but Arafat didn’t even adopt the term “Palestine” until 1964—just three years before Israel’s recapture of both Gaza and Samaria. The PLO’s founding charter, penned under Arab occupation, refused to claim either territory; instead, it called for Israel’s destruction. Their silence about Gaza and the West Bank in 1964 screams louder than any later propaganda.

    Revisionist history mimics Holocaust denial by distorting the record, concealing cause and context, and blaming the victim for surviving.

    When Ben-Gurion and the Zionist leadership named the new state “Israel,” they didn’t merely select a name—they resurrected an identity. “Israel” evoked ancient sovereignty, tethered modern Jewish nationalism to ancestral roots, and announced a reborn nation. This name galvanized a people and reshaped geopolitics.

    Had the Jews named the state “Palestine,” the identity landscape might have fractured. For centuries, “Palestine” referred to geography—not Arab nationality. During the British Mandate, the term “Palestinian” often denoted Jews, not Arabs. Arabs roundly rejected both the 1917 Balfour Declaration and the 1922 League of Nations Mandate, which carved out a Jewish National Home. That rejection didn’t spring from a desire for Palestinian independence—it flowed from opposition to Jewish statehood.

    The Jerusalem Post bore the title Palestine Post during the Mandate, further underlining the term’s original association with Jews. The Zionist movement, founded on Herzl’s vision, drew legitimacy from the Balfour Declaration. Every Arab war against Israel traces back to Arab rejection of Jewish self-determination.

    Foreign propaganda outfits often deploy the word “created” to smear Israel as artificial or illegitimate. But in 1947, two-thirds of the UN voted in favor of Jewish self-determination in the Middle East. Following Israel’s Declaration of Independence, both the U.S. and the Soviet Union immediately recognized the Jewish state. Yet Arab states categorically rejected the British-sponsored UN Resolution 181 and waged war to erase Israel from the map.

    The emergence of a “Palestinian Arab” national identity didn’t arise in a cultural vacuum—it developed as a reaction to Zionism and the Jewish victory in the War of Independence. Jewish sovereignty forced clarity onto a region long trapped in imperial ambiguity.

    We didn’t steal a land. We reclaimed a homeland—and we won our war of national survival. Arab propaganda still clings to the word “created” because it cannot stomach the truth: Israel wasn’t manufactured by foreigners. Jews rebuilt it. Fought for it. Bled for it. Secured it.

    The Palestinian national identity emerged in opposition to Zionism, not as a longstanding expression of sovereignty. Historical facts—like the Jewish political presence across millennia, the origins of the term “Palestinian,” and the legitimacy of Israel’s statehood—have been distorted by propaganda.

    “There are those who parade mitzvos in public and butcher the brit in private.” Yet even as we confront the lies of nations, we must confront the lies we whisper to ourselves—in the shadows of our courts and the corners of our sanctuaries.

    They sculpt their piety for the crowd. They cloak themselves in tallit and tefillin while gutting mishpat behind locked doors. Their lips chant hallel; their hands extort, manipulate, betray. They don Torah like theater, not oath. They fear scandal, not sin. Exposure, not exile. They crave applause, not HaShem’s judgment. They hijack yirat shamayim and weaponize it for social control.

    “And there are those who break Torah laws in Zion, but build it in secret.”

    They offend the eye. They scandalize the synagogue. They clash with halakhic decorum. But when no one watches, they feed the widow, guard the convert, return the lost. They wrestle with the brit in the dead of night. No banners. No blessings. Just emunah forged in sweat and silence. They cut paths through darkness while the righteous sleep.

    “I prefer the latter.”

    The Kotzker doesn’t flinch. He scorches the hypocrite. He crowns the broken. He hunts the soul that bleeds for justice while the choir sings. Better the one who stumbles in daylight but plants mishpat in the shadows than the one who dazzles the crowd while hollowing out Sinai with assimilated Greek logic and statute halachic codes. Better the sinner who limps toward HaShem than the Cohen who flees like naked Adam who clothes himself in gold and titles.

    A Mashal: The Two Sons of the King: Yitzak & Yishmael

    To what may this be compared? To a King who had two sons.

    One son dressed each morning in royal garments. He walked the palace courts with a Koran under his arm and Molotov cocktail burning in the wind while publicly fasting on Ramadan to show honor to the homeless poor. When courtiers passed, he bowed low and recited Surahs & Ayahs in full voice. He offered tithes from the royal table and dipped his bread with flourish. But in the cellar—where no servant dared tread—his corrupted scales weighted profits from theft, scrolls smeared with lies, two separate accounting books. His voice rang holy; but his hands shed the innocent blood of corruption.

    The other son wore torn g’lut clothes and wandered the outer gates. He walked upon dusty roads while his lofty brother goose stepped upon paved sidewalks. He spoke roughly, fought openly, and refused to step into any court which switched the syllogism for פרדס(2). When he prayed tefillah within his heart, the k’vanna did not address any God in the Heavens, but rather he stood before the Torah ark and remembered the oaths sworn by the Avot. The ministers mocked him; the elders wrote him off. But by night he visited the sick. He buried the forgotten. He returned coins dropped by the blind. His door on Shabbat remained open to orphans and strangers. He studied Torah alone, by candle, and wept when he did not understand its common law פרדס inductive logic. No trumpet announced his deeds. No ledger recorded them but the King’s.

    When the Day of Reckoning came, both sons were summoned. The first stood proud, wrapped in Alba, Stole, Chasuble, Cincture, Pectoral Cross, and Liturgical Colors. The second stood silent, eyes lowered, hands crusted and scarred. And the King said:

    “Better the son who stumbles in the street but guards My brit in secret, than the one who honors Me with his lips but who Koran never once mentions the brit in print. (3) For I do not seek actors in My court, but servants who carry justice in the marrow of their bones.”

    Thus taught the Kotzker Rebbe: “Give me no angel wrapped in costume. Give me the soul that limps, bleeds, hides—but clings to HaShem with both fists.”

    Chagigah 5b:

    The baal teshuvah does not merely regret; he wrestles, burns, and rebuilds. He rips out the rotted beams of his past and drives Torah into new ground. No pedigree props him up. No ancestral merit shields him. He grafts emunah into the flesh of his heart and buries it deep within the souls of his children—where no eye sees, where only HaShem weighs the kiddushin mitzva of ‘fruitful and multiply’. He constructs his legal identity from the rubble of assimilation and statute laws. He births halakhic common law identity out of intermarriage chaos—not through inheritance, but through fire. Through sweat. Through judgment. Through t’shuvah.

    The righteous man who never falls may stand, but the baal teshuvah ascends. Not like a Cohen on temple steps—but like a soldier dragging himself up Sinai, gashed, ragged, but clutching the sworn oath brit in stained bloodied hands. The baal teshuvah climbs from the pit of assimilation and intermarriage ruin to build something stronger than innocence—he builds justice from ash.

    This Kotzker line doesn’t whisper piety. It shouts Torah common law. It carves a verdict: authenticity belongs to the one who fights for the brit in secret. The Rebbe doesn’t moralize—he judges. He cuts down the pius religious Jew who bases statute law Judaism code upon Greek foreign logic.

The American republic has fallen not with a coup, but with a quiet regime change. The new regime maintains democratic aesthetics, but behind them lies a fusion of lawfare, corporate oligarchy, and bureaucratic inertia.

    The attempt to develop a provocative and thematically coherent framework that blends political theory, populist critique, and institutional analysis into a meta-narrative about the decline of the American republic and the rise of a technocratic-managerial regime. The titles and framing devices — such as “Lawfare and Leviathan,” “The Invisible Coup,” and “Anarchists in Suits” — effectively dramatize what many populists and dissidents perceive: that the traditional Left-Right spectrum has inverted, and that power now flows through informal, unelected, and often opaque networks of influence.

    The United States no longer functions as a constitutional republic but as a bureaucratic-managerial regime, where unelected actors — from federal agencies and corporate lobbies to tech billionaires — exert de facto control through mechanisms like lawfare, regulatory capture, and financial influence. This regime maintains the appearance of democracy while insulating itself from genuine democratic accountability.

    Anarchism is typically anti-state — yet the accusation here is that the state is growing too powerful. This legalistic anarchy, where the rule of law is no longer predictable or binding but selectively applied to punish dissent. Biden’s figurehead governance or executive inertia, compares to the Wilson Administration after he suffered a stroke and collapsed.

    Clinton’s prostitution of MSM like Maddow’s chirping for three years the Russia-gate scandal slander of President Trump, Pelosi’s twice attempt to impeach the President, the Jan 6 Democratic committee lynch mob, Tom Homan vs AOC, or the Hunter Biden laptop suppression. Each anchor, abstract critiques in concrete controversies. The EU’s technocracy, Trudeau’s Emergencies Act, WEF influence show how the “invisible coup”, not uniquely American but part of a global managerial turn.

    The United States no longer functions as a constitutional republic. It has undergone a silent regime change, not through armed insurrection or revolution, but via the incremental expansion of an unelected managerial class — one composed of federal agencies, tech oligarchs, corporate lobbyists, and judicial partisans who enforce their will through a new weapon: lawfare.

    This new regime maintains the aesthetics of democracy — elections, laws, and televised debate — while insulating itself from true democratic accountability. The real power lies in what the public never votes for: the bureaucrats who write regulations, the judges who interpret law by ideological alignment, and the billionaires who fund narratives, campaigns, and policies from behind the scenes.

    The hallmark of this new regime is the politicization of justice. When courts cease to be impartial and prosecutions become tools of political suppression, the republic dies by a thousand subpoenas. Trump’s legal troubles, regardless of personal guilt, are emblematic of this transformation: trials as political theater, indictments as electoral strategies.

    The managerial state rules by inertia. Congressional deadlock, executive figureheads, and judicial activism have created a vacuum filled by alphabet agencies and “public-private partnerships.” These unaccountable bureaucracies write binding policy with the force of law — but without a single vote cast. The merger of tech censorship, legal persecution, and bureaucratic overreach simply not some ‘democratic oversight’ — but oligarchic enforcement dolled-up in liberal clothing.

    Today, populists who challenge the bureaucratic order branded as “criminal radicals,” while those defending entrenched power modelled as whores advertising their trade behind window-panes, as “progressives.” The roles have reversed: dismantling unaccountable federal agencies, restoring legislative primacy, and enforcing transparency, now exist as “revolutionary” ideas. Meanwhile, defending a bloated alien blob infested federal apparatus has become the hallmark of “liberal” governance.

    Anarchy doesn’t always burn like Molotov cocktails thrown at SS soldiers at the Warsaw Ghetto revolt. Today, anarchy wears a suit, like as does the current dictator of Syria, or sits on some judicial bench. Law in America, no longer consistent, Court prosecutions politically selective, the consequence of this political corruption — legalistic anarchy — an unstable bankrupt regime cloaked in all manner of legal pretense. This, simply not a critique of the Biden administration alone. That would make it shallow reactionary Trump derangement syndrome stupid. Nor does it limit its condemnation only to the Democratic Party. Republicans too have become fat and sassy comfortable puppets of the same donor class and administrative inertia. The crisis confronting our American Constitutional Republic – structural.

    If America rejects the Bush slander of the US Constitution, calling it just a GD piece of paper! We the People of the United States must confront this Leviathan perversion of our Constitutional Republic unto a bureaucratic dictatorship — not just by winning elections, but by dismantling the unelected machinery of governance that makes elections irrelevant, and restore the autonomy of the States to bureaucratically regulate all Industry and commerce transactions within each and every State of the Union without Washington Big Brother. The original Constitution, designed for a limited, representative republic, not Carpet Bagger Federal unelected bureaucrats employing more Americans than does private industry. This bloated post American Civil War technocratic regime, cloaked in democratic ritual, governed by lawfare, money, and media manipulation as replaced the power of the State Legislatures to hold elected Senators and Congressmen accountable to represent the States which appoint them to power in Washington in the first place.

    Previous Biden administration’s multiple legal confrontations with Trump (including criminal trials and accusations of politically motivated prosecutions) could be seen as “anarchist in political orientation” — taps into a widespread right-wing concern about the politicization of the justice system.

    Supporters of these prosecutions, both State & Federal, argue no one is above the law — and Trump’s actions legitimately warrant investigation. Yet this ignores the historical fact that the manner the Democratic Party conducts itself while in power – totally unprecedented in American history.

    This “arrest your political opponents” smacks of socialist/communist Anarchism. Have no heard any defense made by any Democratic leader which contends and rejects this observation made by an outsider US citizen living abroad. Anarchism typically means the rejection of law, order, and authority, often aimed at dismantling state structures, and the Federal and State Court systems together with the entire Federal bureaucracy, based upon all the corruption which Elon Musk has uncovered and exposed, totally corrupt and debased.

    Especially under the mentally handicapped Biden Administration the suspicion stands: “Who operates and controls the Government? The President, Congress, and Supreme Court vs the Federal bureaucrats in alliance with the lobbies/Corporate monopoly donors who make huge “investments” which Democrat or Republican or Independent leaders get elected to Office. This infusion of “corporate investments” into the political election process” has cause the costs to elect or run for political office to force political candidates of all stripes – left or right – to prostitute themselves as the whores of the Corporate monopolies! Hence the question stands: “Who actually runs the Federal and State Governments? Do the Constitutional bodies/legislature in the States\ run State and Federal Government OR do the CEOs of corporate monopolies pull the strings of the elected official puppets?

    Tom Homan vs AOC serves as an example. Does the Trump Administration seek to dismantle the huge Federal bureaucracy vs AOC who promotes maintaining the old order status quo? This conflict in effect reverses the roles of liberals vs conservatives! Maintaining the status quo – Conservatism. While dismantling the expensive Federal Bureaucracy and holding judges accountable for their legal rulings qualifies as “Liberal”.

  32. I’ve been thinking about Grover Cleveland quite a lot recently, the only president besides Donald Trump to be elected to two non-consecutive terms. Cleveland was not one of the presidents who got a lot of coverage when I read books on American history.

    • Thank you, Tony! Great mention of Grover Cleveland; he and Trump definitely share the non-consecutive-terms thing. (Cleveland was born about five miles from my New Jersey apartment in 1837; his house is still there — now a small museum.)

    Of course there would be a Gold Ring for members to kiss as it goes round and round. Whomever plants the most kisses, gets a box of secret documents.

  39. I stand with what Bernie Sanders said: self-serving political clans have brought the US to this moment of truth. Congress isn’t a mirror of society but a club of senile lawyers who didn’t manage to earn their bread otherwise because the US is already inundated with them. Big time to introduce a numerus clausum for these studies.

  46. Yes, it has already happened, hasn’t it, and with every staff appointment, it gets worse–and it isn’t going to get better for a long time. I smiled at all the book titles you worked in, Dave, but otherwise I’m having trouble smiling much at anything.

    When we were driving toward the mountains to charge our car two hours ago, we got an exceptionally clear view of the Alps across the entire horizon, the sun gleaming off the snow on Bern’s three most famous peaks, Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. The sight was a good reminder that no matter what happens under Trump, some things are permanently magnificent and will still fill me with awe whenever I see them (even if Trump will help reduce the snow that falls on those mountains in years to come.)
